During my time at Berkeley, I engaged with the university's disability community, empowering my fellow disabled students through orientations, community outreach, the performing arts, and peer review sessions. I am currently attending Rutgers University to earn my Masters in English and Media Studies.
Freelance, I've assisted both high school- and college-aged students, particularly in helping them comprehend their literary and poetic assignments and craft essays that contain well-rounded arguments. Rather than plowing forward with instruction and lecture, I seek to empower my students by asking questions that enable them to truly dissect and inhabit their reading assignments. I've collected a wealth of graphic organizers over the years and love when I am able to share those organizers with my students in the hopes that they can use these organizers to explore their reading assignments and essays from new angles. And rather than simply marking up essays with red ink, I have also employed my own feedback-organizers that encourage the student on how to evolve their next draft as opposed to merely pointing out the things they did wrong.
In short, my goal is to empower my students to choose their path forward, to truly understand their reading material and feel confident in their essay-crafting abilities.
