Hi my name is Maya! I graduated magna cum laude from a dual degree Physician Assistant program. In undergraduate, I was a double major in Biology and Philosophy with a minor in Chemistry, and I am currently a PA-S2 in my second year of PA school. As a student in a rigorous and competitive program, I understand how difficult the course load of a student going into a medical career can be as well as how important it is to have a good professor who can break down the material in a comprehensible way. I bring my own background as a current student to help other students that are struggling in their courses and need a little extra help.
My preferred subjects are Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Biology, but I also have a background in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology. Most of my tutoring experience comes from helping my peers throughout the above listed courses. As such, I have the most experience in tutoring students with a level of background knowledge in biological concepts such as undergraduate and high school level students.
In general, my preferred method of tutoring is to have my students give me the topics they’re looking for clarification on before our lesson so I can create lecture slides of my own. These slides include practice questions and tips for understanding and memorizing topics which I go over with my student during our lesson. Afterwards, I always share those slides with my students so they can refer back to them when they are studying on their own. Nonetheless, I am open to whatever method best suits the student and their learning style and am open to any suggestions from parents and students. I only prefer to be given the topic of our session beforehand so I can best prepare any supplementary materials in advance.
