Hi my name is Maya! I graduated magna cum laude from an dual degree Physician Assistant program. In undergraduate, I was a double major in Biology and Philosophy with a minor in Chemistry, and I am currently a PA-S2 starting my second year of PA school. As a student in a rigorous and competitive program, I understand how difficult the course load of a student going into a medical career can be as well as how important it is to have a good professor who can break down the material in a comprehensible way. I bring my own background as a current student to help other students that are struggling in their courses and need a little extra help.
My preferred subjects are Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Biology, but I also have a background in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology. Most of my tutoring experience comes from helping my peers throughout the above listed courses. As such, I have the most experience in tutoring students with a level of background knowledge in biological concepts such as undergraduate and high school level students. However, in the past, I was a middle school math tutor for Algebra 1 for my local branch of the Math Honor Society, so I am also experienced in how to better conceptualize topics for younger students without such background knowledge.
In general, my preferred method of tutoring is to gauge the level of understanding of my student and then clarify the uncertain points of the lesson. Finally, I ensure that my student has a firm understanding of the topic through practice questions. Nonetheless, I am open to whatever method best suits the student and their learning style and am open to any suggestions from parents and students. One thing to note is that I do prefer to be given the topic of our session beforehand so I can best prepare any supplementary materials in advance.
