An outstanding teacher must be flexible with his/her instructional techniques. An outstanding teacher engages his/her students by infusing interactive activities throughout the lesson to ensure the students will maximize their academic potential. An outstanding teacher is willing to attend professional development training to stay abreast of educational trends. An outstanding teacher is willing to follow & lead. A teacher must use differentiated instruction to ensure that “all” students meet their SLO’s as prescribed by the teacher. A teacher can’t solely rely on one mode of assessment. Technology, verbal assessments, hands on projects, etc. must be used to assess DOL of the students.
I was reared in the South where structure and respect were the norms in the classroom. I have taught in the Asbury Park Public School district for the past 22 years in which I have taught low-income, minority children. For the past 5-7 years, I have taught children of the students who I taught 22 years ago in the Middle School. I have been blessed to be named Teacher of the Year twice and have won numerous accolades from the district’s Parent Teacher Organization and Parent Advisory Council.
