My favorite thing about being an art teacher is getting to know my students and being able to cater projects to their likes and preferences while still being able to target essential foundational skills like observational drawing, use of media and understanding the elements of art and principles of design. Forming a personal connection to the art is what makes you FEEL from it, and that’s what art is all about.
I think art is so important because this world is in dire need of creative thinkers and problem solvers, and a creative outlet is an essential part of general wellbeing. Art empowers students to speak their truth and that their voice is powerful and can change the world!
