Additional interests include: writing children's stories (published on public radio station), writing feature stories for newspapers, editing text books for publishers.
My additional interests include: riding and caring for my horses, playing with my loving honey colored lab, Maize, designing and sewing clothes, growing, cooking, preserving vegetables/fruits and cooking creative meals, fishing (fresh/saltwater), playing the cello, watching hockey games, and randomly photographing everything to capture the moment.
I've taught ages 5-21. Student connections enable that student to move on, have choices, and feel productive. My qualifications include a BA in English Education. Hands on experience includes: teaching high school, middle school, elementary school (science, reading, writing, math). At present, I'm a full time reading intervention teacher working with grades 4-5.
It is very important for me to hear and patiently listen to each of my readers. Many of my students experience difficulty: sounding out words, acknowledging spelling patterns, and comparing the patterns of letters to vowels and their relationships. This creates an impatience which needs a patient ear and strategy. My interest is in helping students become better readers. When a student experiences success/relief in reading there is more YES in his/her daily life.
