Hello, my name is Griffin. I graduated from Notre Dame in May 2025 with a B.S. in physics (departmental honors) and mathematics, and I earned a Master’s in physics from Ohio University in August 2026. In college, I spent much of my free time tutoring friends in classes I had taken and volunteering at community learning centers with elementary and high school students. In my senior year, I tutored everything from college pre-calculus and introductory statistics to discrete math, differential equations, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra in the math department, and I was the department-appointed tutor for introductory physics majors. In graduate school, I was a laboratory teaching assistant (lab TA) for introductory physics students (non-majors), working ~15 hours a week in the classroom for two semesters. As a lab TA, I gave brief reviews of homework/lecture topics relevant to the lab and then offered pointers on how to perform the lab. Afterward, I circled the room, working one-on-one and in small groups to address technical and conceptual difficulties, which was highly fulfilling.
My tutoring philosophy is rooted in empowering students to build comfort and confidence in their ability to study and learn, both in general and in the relevant STEM subject we are working on. In addition, I guide them to discover a genuine appreciation for the subject and for learning and hard work more broadly. I believe that finding internal fulfillment from learning and doing one’s very best is the surest path to high achievement in school and many other parts of life.
My tutoring philosophy is to understand the student's current level of comprehension, identify areas of misunderstanding or lagging development, and design lessons and supervised exercises to assess those areas of growth and monitor skill/knowledge development.
