I’m Eileen, but the kids call me Mrs. K. I recently retired from teaching after 25+ years in the classroom. I miss working with the children, and watching the light bulbs go on as they master the skills we are working on. I have had extensive training in, and had great success with a specific phonics program that gets kids decoding and reading quickly and easily. The less time a child spends struggling to get the words off the page, the more time and energy they have to comprehend what they are reading, and make the bigger, necessary connections. I also have experience with Common Core Math, Grammar, Writing, Social Studies, Spelling and Vocabulary. I work hard to create varied lesson plans, meeting each child where they are, in order to engage them, and provide them with opportunities for success.
As I said, I have over 25 years of experience in the elementary classroom, ranging from PK4 through 8th Grade, spending close to 20 years in PK, Kindergarten, and first grade. Most recently, I taught Fourth Grade for the last four years, and taught Middle School Math and Science for five years. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in English. Additionally, I have earned many graduate level credits specializing in teaching Reading. I currently hold New Jersey Teacher Certifications for Elementary Grades K – 5 and Middle School English / LA.
