Hi,
I am a final year student at Rutgers University double majoring in Biotechnology and Plant biology. I will be starting my PhD in Molecular and Cellular Plant Biology this fall. I have experience tutoring since high school, as part of the National Honors Society, and have been tutoring throughout my undergraduate career. I have experience teaching using textbooks, online drawing softwares, as well as paper and pen. I have taught students from middle school and high school, but am also comfortable teaching younger and older ages.
My tutoring experiences include mathematics and sciences. I have been tutoring courses such as algebra I, and am comfortable tutoring geometry and algebra II as well. In terms of science, I have experience tutoring general elementary and middle school science, physical sciences, life sciences, honors and AP biology, honors and AP physics, Integrated physical and life sciences curricula, and am open to teaching similar science courses which fit in my background.
I have a strong background in biology, and relevant coursework includes genetics (A), microbiology (A), molecular genetics (A), biochemistry (A), botany (A), molecular biology (A), plant tissue culture and engineering (A), and college physics (A). I have also taken AP chemistry, AP biology, AP physics C, AP calculus AB, BC, and AP environmental science.
My main teaching philosophy is to teach so that my students can learn to understand, not simply so they can do well on an exam. Oftentimes, teachers like to teach a concept, and test it by changing certain aspects of the problem, which leads many students to not be able to solve them on an exam. However, by fortifying conceptual understandings, rather than memorizing formulas or facts, my students are able to apply their knowledge across a variety of settings, allowing for applications across subjects. As such, I like to promote a better understanding of subject matter, which makes itself evident through academic improvement.
I am very excited to be a tutor on Wyza
