My educational background is diverse and interesting. I have studied business, international law & international relations, industrial psychology, clinical psychology and issues pertinent to parent and child mental health. I worked PT as a substitute teacher for a parochial school in Brooklyn, NY, and I had taught at a college level for more than 18 years. I had also taught high school children who took "college now" courses (for college credit while still in HS). In addition, I am licensed mental health counselor and a licensed professional counselor in multiple states. Since I conduct psychotherapy with children, and I teach, I am happy to undergo "fingerprinting" regularly and pass through all the necessary background checks. In fact, I have passed the background check required by this site, recently. As a parent myself, I understand the important of having trust in people who work with children of all ages.
Working with children of all ages, starting from their specific developmental level is my specialty. I trust once a tutor connects with the child and her/his family, any subject can be "negotiated" and learned. A student-focused approach is critical in learning, and I understand that. I always aim to establish an environment where respect of the individual is the norm; all the educational needs fall into the right place after that. Parents need support in supporting their children, and that is fine actually! I look forward to hearing from you and to be working with your child, soon.
