Hello! My name is Avery MacDonell, and I am a Chemistry and Physics teacher at Watchung Hills Regional High School (WHRHS) in NJ. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Chemistry and a Master's in Physical Science Education at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
I have been a teacher at WHRHS since the fall of 2025. I have experience teaching all levels of chemistry, CP Physics, and AP Physics 1. I was also a technical instructor for General Chemistry I and II, and a teaching assistant for Physics for the Sciences I and II at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. I have also taken a rigorous Honors Organic Chemistry course at Rutgers University.
My goal as an educator is to help you develop and refine your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Regardless of whether you decide to pursue a career in science, I want you to feel level-headed and confident when facing any challenge. Rather than just teaching you how to solve a problem, I want you to understand the purpose behind every step. I focus on teaching meta-cognitive skills such as concept mapping, equation derivations, and self-assessing performance.
I provide individualized instruction to meet any of your educational needs. We can complete practice problems, review important concepts and models, graph data, or derive equations. I also provide introductory sessions for future physics or chemistry courses you plan to take.
Please feel free to message me if you would like to chat or set up a session!
