Hi, I’m Marilyn! I am a third-year DO medical student with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. Having personally navigated the premedical and medical school admissions process, I understand how overwhelming it can be to determine what experiences to pursue, how to build a competitive application, and how to effectively communicate your unique story to admissions committees. I am passionate about mentoring applicants and helping them approach the application process with confidence and a clear strategy.
My mentoring and teaching experience includes working one-on-one with premedical and non-trad students the past 2 years through mentorship programs affiliated with the University of Maryland and Phi Delta Epsilon (PhiDE). Through these experiences, I have helped students navigate their premedical journey, set academic and extracurricular goals, prepare for medical school applications, and identify ways to strengthen their candidacy. I have had the opportunity to mentor students who have successfully gained admission to medical school. My approach is personalized and collaborative, with a focus on implementing feedback frequently.
I offer guidance throughout the medical school preparation and application process, including developing individualized strategies for becoming a strong and competitive applicant, identifying application strengths and weaknesses, and editing personal statements, activity descriptions, secondary essays, and other application materials. I also provide mock traditional interviews with personalized feedback and strategies for improvement. For students seeking academic support, I offer study strategies tailored to their coursework and learning style. My goal is to provide honest, constructive feedback while helping each student recognize their strengths, develop confidence, and take meaningful steps toward achieving their goal of becoming a physician.
