Hi everyone! My name is Diane and I am thrilled to be a tutor on Wyzant! I love working with students of all ages. Nothing gives me more pleasure than helping students develop their skills and achieve their academic goals.
I graduated with high distinction from the University of Maine at Orono, with a master’s degree in communication disorders. In addition, I have minors in Education, French, and Psychology. I have received more than 3 ACE awards from the American Speech and Hearing Association for accumulating 70 hours (or more!) of continuing education hours within a 3-year period. I have worked as a speech language pathologist for over 40 years, but I have also been a communication coach/tutor for several years.
My teaching style focuses on the student’s goals, as well as filling in skill gaps. I work to activate students’ prior knowledge of the target subject while building a strong skill foundation. I work to expand students’ skill sets with the goal of helping them reach their potential. I tailor my tutoring lessons around my students’ interests. I stress the importance of practice tasks for assisting them in mastering their target subjects.
As a school speech language pathologist, I developed competencies in the areas of articulation, literacy, reading, written language, phonics and study skills. I took specific training in the Lindamood bell LiPs Program, Project Read, and Framing Your Thoughts for written language. I usually see students in a one-to-one online setting, but I also have experience working with students in groups of 2 or 3.
When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading, watching sports (e.g., football, soccer, the Olympics), drawing, and making cards. I also love taking time out to love my fur children. I have two dogs, Fiyero and Idina. I also have 3 cats, Tiberius, Grace Kelly, and Alexander. Finally, I have a blue front Amazon parrot named Figgy.
