About France

You will grow to love the English language as you learn its intricacies and opportunities for creativity.

You will learn the sounds of the language and be able to pronounce words you have never seen. You will learn word and usage origins; how English assimilates words from other languages, and how it creates its own words.

Best of all, you will have a marvelous adventure along your path to academic excellence and intellectual development.

We will pursue this road both inside and outside in beautiful New England area. Language is our connection with all that has come before us. The area is full of history. We will use its historical associations with our study of the development of English usage from its initial settlement to the present day.

Come on this journey with me. It will be provocative. And you will excel.

I have taught English as a second language to both undergraduate students and people in business. Professionally, I write business negotiations, general communication and promotional material. I am a caring and insightful teacher, always on the lookout for the most appropriate manner in which to enable you to achieve excellence. And, I do all this with a broad sense of humor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have a BFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I have worked as an illustrator for magazines and all the major newspapers along the East coast of the USA, as well as in the UK and Australia. My drawings and paintings are in public and private collections both in the USA and overseas. I can teach anyone to improve their drawing. Plus...you will have fun while learning!

Painting

I have a BFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in painting, and studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a painting major. I am a successful artist. I have extensive experience with acrylics, watercolor, and oils. I can help you follow your dreams, as YOU want to follow them. I will help you with your technique and art without imposing my aesthetic. Come along!!

Photography

I have BFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and am a successful, professional photographer. My main interest lies in photojournalism, and I do location events, interiors, and commercial travel photography. At the moment, I am shooting digitally, but have a history of working in film, and would be happy to help you there. If you aspire to landscape, still life, fashion, portrait, animal, or any other area of work, I would be there for you.

Reading

I engage students in reading through providing materials which cover their own interests in life. This works for any age. I also use the sounds of English in my comprehensive approach to a student's overall understanding of the language and to accelerate their achievement in reading.

Writing

I write business letters, resumes, contracts, essays and poetry. I can also help you with cursive handwriting.
