I have taught English as a second language to both undergraduate students and people in business. Professionally, I write business negotiations, general communication and promotional material. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I engage students in reading through providing materials which cover their own interests in life. This works for any age. I also use the sounds of English in my comprehensive approach to a student's overall understanding of the language and to accelerate their achievement in reading.
