Hello! You can read through my qualifications on paper below, but what I believe makes me an outstanding tutor is my experience growing up as a native English speaker, yet surrounded by family members for whom it was not their native tongue. Hello! You can read through my qualifications on paper below, but what I believe makes me an outstanding tutor is my experience growing up as a native English speaker, yet surrounded by family members for whom it was not their native tongue. My mother immigrated to the United States as a teenager from the Dominican Republic, and therefore I frequently served as her cultural interpreter and have spent my life navigating multiple cultures.
I have been teaching at New England College for 4 years now, in courses ranging from a First Year Student Bridge course, fitness courses and career planning. I run mulitple information sessions with international students and in my position as an International Student Advisor at New England College, I support over 900 students from all over the world. I am responsible for supporting them in a variety of ways, from helping them to maintain their status and understand US immigration regulations and paperwork, I also serve as their liaison and support system from the first moment they arrive in the USA. I relish the rich diversity and excitement that comes with working with students from a variety of cultures.
My paper qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Saint Michael's College, a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration from New England College, and a certification to Teach English as a Foreign Language.
I took my first class in weightlifting in high school and have not stopped having fun since! I currently teach classes at New England College in fitness and enjoy working with students in this way as well.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I focus on creating a safe space for students to challenge themselves--that is when true growth occurs. I look forward to working with you!
