I recently graduated from the University of Vermont with a dual degree in history and the Russian Language. While I studied in St. Petersburg, Russia, I tutored Russian high school students in English. This experience was not only in terms of understanding the differences in the two languages, but it offered an excellent opportunity to see how young Russians view the world. Language and language history fascinate me. I greatly enjoy discussing or teaching how language transforms our interpretation of our surroundings.
Some of my hobbies include reading, skiing, hiking, and scuba diving. During quarantine I started writing for fun, and hopefully will publish the next great American novel within a year or two. My favorite food is the sweet potato or mint chocolate chip ice cream, I can't decide. My favorite book is The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky.
I studied world history in university, focusing on Africa and the Middle East specifically; however, I am very familiar with European history from my Russian cultural studies. Geography was my minor until I went to Russia. I would like to consider myself in the countries and peoples of the world. Finally, I study American history simply for the love of knowledge and good citizenship.
