About Patricia

Hello,

My name is Patty M. and I am here to help. Currently, I teach 8th grade math. I have taught high school math and have been tutoring students from the third grade to adults studying for teacher exams and graduate exams. I am personally familiar with the ASVAB test as well. I know that it can be frustrating to find yourself taking courses that feel too challenging or to be overwhelmed by an exam that is looming in the future. Let's see if there is something we can do to ease your frustration or to strengthen your study skills. You can do it and I can help. I am willing to drive to see you or to work online with you. I am very computer literate and love using technology to support work in a classroom and to strengthen independent learning. Need someone to be flexible with time? That is me. Talk soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

My experience with the ASVAB test is personal and professional. In 2007 I had aspirations to join the military and went through the process including taking the ASVAB test. I was carted out to western Massachusetts to participate. My results would have enabled me to make any MOS choice I wanted and was allowed to, at the time, in the National Guard/Army. I ended up not joining the military, but in the meantime I've assisted and tutored many people in raising their scores to well past the required minimum and desired score. My process is to find the strategies that work for each student individually while being available to support and continue the motivation to reach each goal. Taking the ASVAB test is similar to any other standardized test - it is a process that can be mastered while refreshing content skills.

Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra is a course that begins as an 8th grade math student. As a specific class, Linear Algebra focuses on matrices and patterns to apply to real world situations. These concepts carry over from elementary/pre-algebra and through pre-calculus. My background is a minor in math from Fitchburg State University, bachelors in middle school math/science education, a Masters in STEM, as well as nine years of practice in teaching/tutoring students in content specific algebra for grades 8 - college.

Study Skills

I have an extensive background in tutoring on top of my certified classroom teaching. I believe that working individually with students in their organization and their own learning styles allows for better studying and retention of content materials.

TEAS

I am experienced in tutoring and offering support strategies for all standardized tests. TEAS models the Praxis, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, NCLEX, etc. Content material is readily accessible for practice. I offer personalized methods of study and practice.
