I was bitten by the weather bug when I was four years old. My dream from then on was to become a meteorologist, which I realized by earning my master’s degree in meteorology from Penn State University. As part of that degree program, I taught a 1-credit introductory meteorology course to undergraduate students. I’m proud to have obtained this degree, but I’m not a prototypical scientist. My natural ability has always been in the realm of the written and spoken word. I was fortunate to combine both callings as Director of Publications at the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in Boston. It was in this position that I honed my skills in writing, editing, teaching, public speaking, publishing, and management. I was president of the Council of Science Editors and taught numerous short courses in publication management through that organization.
I assure you that my writing skills extend well beyond meteorology and technical science to all genres. I am also a polished professional public speaker and can help people overcome their fear of talking to audiences of any size.
My tutoring style is informal and collaborative. I also bring a sense of humor to the task. After all, learning should be an enjoyable experience.
If your goal is to become a refined and compelling writer and/or speaker, and a better communicator in general, I’m here to help. I’ll be happy to include complimentary weather forecasts as part of the arrangement!
