I help - especially in AP Language and AP Literature - as one of my students, you will see the underlying concepts of these classes (and do the same for SAT prep) so you build your confidence and succeed not only on the exams but also in all your writing and critical reading.

I provide support with regular class work, exam prep and also with general support for the entire courses.

The same techniques that help AP students also help all students who take a wide range of levels of courses; our discussions and mini lessons keep the focus on the my students' own goals. Throughout my career, I have taught all grades and levels of high school English, coached public speaking, taught creative writing and college composition. I am nimble with technology so have interesting strategies and methods to teach with.

The magic happens when ideas spark other ideas; tutoring sessions focused and goal-driven get the sparks going - sending students on their way to success. Helping you succeed is what you want from a tutor!

My education includes an MST in English from the University of New Hampshire, a graduate certificate in online instructional design from Plymouth State University, a BBA in business from the University of Massachusetts, and many graduate courses in other topics such as law, leadership and science.

I love it when students come away from a class or session with work accomplished so they are propelled to further success independently.

I work with public, private, remote and homeschool students, which means I have some understanding of the challenges your particular learning environment might present. I look forward to meeting you!

I am a certified teacher, who has a Master's in English. I worked in high schools and community colleges, in addition to my freelance career as a writer and editor. I don't know why I could not find others' reviews, but here you go: My daughter has been struggling mentally and academically since school closed down due to pandemic. She took AP lang/comp in junior year, she was really struggling with it, she failed the class at 1st semester, she also struggled with several other classes. She was down and no motivation, nearly gave up. We tried Varsity tutors, spent much, did not see much progress due to the tutor's inexperience with AP Lang/Comp. We then tried local Sylva's in-person tutoring, same issue. I then decided to give Wyzant a try, I found Jean! She totally changed my perspective regarding on-line tutoring. Right after the first lesson, my daughter who had been so frustrated and down, came to thank me. Jean is very experienced with AP Lang/Comp, she knows AP Lang/comp inside and out, a wonderful teacher who gets things done efficiently, who is understanding, gracious, always speaks specific strengths of my daughter and encouraging, she sends prompt progress report which I really appreciate and love to read.
