I understand that when you know nothing at all, learning art is a lot like learning another language and students can easily get lost trying to understand the how’s and why’s. I break it down to simple easy to understand elements that when put together raises the knowledge and abilities of the student to a whole other level. I can teach anyone who is willing to learn, and I can make it fun as well. This is especially important as many beginners look at their lack of experience as a permanent obstruction or fault that they cannot overcome. I show them they can without as much effort as they think. More advanced students will find out what they are missing, and I can match their abilities with challenges that will also carry them to a higher level. Inspiration, motivation, a sense of fun and a smile too.
I have a master’s in fine art that includes training in multiple mediums and decades of teaching college and all ages. In my small mural company, I have a process where I show kids of all ages how to produce relevant images and put them together in a cohesive image, transfer that image to the base of a mural and paint it in. I have taught all forms of two-dimensional art in college, to elementary, middle, and high school students as well as work with communities of people of all ages. Understanding what you are doing is the key to making great art and I have much experience breaking that down into simple fundamentals that build into a greater understanding and level of competence for the student.
