Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I begin by making certain that a good solid math foundation is there; as time permits. Make certain to fill in gaps as needed. Then, work on sample problems for the test itself. Not only from the standpoint of how to solve problems, but also what they're looking for in the way that one approaches answering the questions.
ADHD

ADHD

I have already tutored multiple students who have ADHD and ADD. I help these students learn how to stay on track with their material, look for key information and patterns to look for, in order to answer questions with a minimal level of straying or losing focus. I have tutored students with ADHD (and ADD) for over 30 years.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Over 25 years of successfully tutoring Algebra. Have helped students to either better prepare, or even recover from a rough start.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra II, along with related mathematics areas, for over 25 years. I go through the building blocks that are necessary to understanding the mathematics areas, along with specific testing examples, as available.
Financial Accounting

Financial Accounting

I have a post-graduate business degree, with a major in Accounting. I have a total of 36 semester hours of Accounting. Courses taken include the Intermediates, Advanced, Personal and Corporate Taxation, along with International. I have tutored Accounting for over 20 years, in the following areas: Principles I and II, Cost Accounting, and Intermediate I, II, and III. Have also tutored graduate-level Financial Accounting - my student had a course final average of 97.
General Computer

General Computer

Have taught students from very young to post-retirement in using computers. Teach Windows, Mac, and Linux. Incredibly patient. Have run computer help desks, along with hands on computer training at homes, businesses, and classrooms.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Further, while tutoring math in college (almost 25 years ago), I was exposed to what has now become known as 'Common Core'. The basic premise behind this was to more carefully delineate student capabilities. Too many students were allegedly receiving a grade of 'A', with very different levels of understanding. The goal identified nearly 30 years ago, was that students who could do what was identified as 'higher order thinking' were the ones thought to deserve the grade of 'A', while those who could simply do the arithmetic operations would be relegated to a grade of 'B' or lower. Regardless of the school system or state, the ability to do the higher order thinking has helped prepare my tutoring students to advance to the top of their math classes, both in understanding and performance.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have tutored hundreds of students regarding the various math focus areas for over 25 years. Seven students scored 1500 or higher, while two scored below 1200. Most of my students score in the 1250-1450 range. The better results have come from students being diligent in making most, if not all scheduled lessons. For those who plan to retake their SAT, score improvement ranges have been a low of 100 points, to a high of 530 points - which is clearly not typical.

Knowledgeable, Patient Tutor

Mark takes the time to explain concepts in a way that makes sense. So many pieces fall into place in any session with Mark. He knows the material and takes the time to both listen to the student, and then rephrase anything that might not yet be clear.

Understands IT issues as well

I had a new computer with a new operating system, a new Quickbooks version, and a new Microsoft office version, so there were multiple issues that needed addressing. He got most of them solved but was going to have to come back to finish but as we were in a hurry we got it finished on our own. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful.

Very Patient tutor and knowledgeable

Mark is an excellent accounting tutor. I had to do a project that professor said that it was going to take 4 hours minimum. I scheduled my first appointment with Mark and we were able to crank out the whole project in less than 4 hours. He is a very patient tutor and knowledgable of the accounting world. He clarified terms/ steps that I was not sure of. He made sure that I had the answers correctly but most importantly, he teaches you as to how he got the answers. If you are ever stuck in Accounting, Mark is the person to go to!
