About Melissa

Bio

I have been working in education since I was a college student and have been a full-time English teacher for grades 7-12 for the past ten years. After attending college, a teaching certification program, and a Master's program, paying back the graduate student loans has been a daunting task. It is my hope to continue to help students of the English language to achieve or exceed their goals and in turn earn compensation to apply back to my own education. I really enjoy helping students specifically with college essays, and have helped all types of my own students get accepted to schools of their choosing. My job is very rewarding and fun; I would not trade it for anything.

SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I have been teaching as a highly qualified teacher in New Hampshire for ten years. I have taught both middle and high school with courses focused on all areas of the Common Core. My students have shown growth in their reading scores consistently. The main focus I work on with students in their writing is their diction (word choice) and organization. In terms of reading, we work on the knowledge and integration of ideas as well as argumentative writing. These are the areas I find majority of students today struggle with and could all use assistance to improve. My degree is not in teaching, but rather in English. I believe it is important to have focused on English as a major course of study prior to achieving my teaching certification for grades 5-12 and a Master's in Education.
Track & Field

Track & Field

I competed in high school and college track, winning individual events, placing top three in multiple events, as well as three state championships. I have coached middle and high school track since 2007, recruiting and training three individual state champions-long jump, (undefeated) triple jump, and the (undefeated)100 meter dash. Two places in the top four as juniors at the New England Championships. I was a multi-event athlete, coaching athletes to the top 10 in a decathlon in the state. I was trained by some of the best coaches and I apply what I have learned to my coaching. Finally, my specialty is the triple jump-every school I have coached at the athletes have broken the record at their schools, and I held it when I was in high school.
