I am a certified New Hampshire educator with 20 years of classroom teaching experience. I hold a bachelor’s degree in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching, with certifications in elementary and special education. I have taught grades 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
I specialize in elementary reading, phonics, writing, and math. My reading instruction is grounded in the science of reading. I have experience with the 95 Percent Group Phonics Core Program, Heggerty, Kilpatrick’s phonemic awareness strategies, Scarborough’s Reading Rope, and Acadience. These tools help me identify where a child needs support and focus on the skills that will make the greatest difference.
In writing, I use Self Regulated Strategy Development, or SRSD, to help students organize their ideas and become more confident, independent writers. In math, I use a concrete, pictorial, and abstract progression to help children build a strong understanding of mathematical concepts. I break concepts into manageable steps and encourage children to explain their thinking rather than simply memorize a procedure.
I have also provided individualized instruction through private homeschool teaching, tutoring, and online lessons. I have worked with children, teens, and adults learning English as a second language, as well as students who need support with academics, organization, or confidence.
Building a meaningful relationship with each student is at the heart of my teaching. I take time to learn about their personality, strengths, and interests so I can connect instruction to things that matter to them. When students feel known and respected, they are more comfortable asking questions, working through challenges, and taking pride in their progress.
I begin by identifying what a student already understands and where the confusion begins. I then provide clear instruction, guided practice, and encouragement while gradually building independence.
