About Allison

Bio

My name is Allison W. and I am currently attending Dartmouth College. I got a 35 on my ACT and believe I can aid students in reaching their goals on that test. I had a 4.0 GPA in high school and passed 17 AP courses throughout my high school experience (earning perfect scores on 12 AP exams and a "4" score on the others). And I have played the cello for 12 years and teach in a private studio, including helping several students earn first chair in their respective orchestras.

Tutoring has always been a passion of mine. I have always enjoyed the challenge of learning. I think Albert Einstein said it best when he declared, "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." Years later, a 2011 study published results that correlated intelligence with curiosity. I believe every student has the potential to explore and learn a subject matter if they only dedicate themselves and decide to be curious enough to find the answers.

Learning came naturally to me in a scholastic environment many times; but other times, it didn't. Other times, I failed. I struggled. I had to motivate myself to continue. There are so many different ways of learning information, and I want to explore them all. I believe every student has the potential to learn information. Some just do it in less conventional ways than others.

I have tutored students (ages 10-18) with dyslexia, severe forms of ADHD, and Down syndrome, and I have seen them all be able to learn in different ways, whether it be physically feeling and imagining the letters on the page; relating math equations to football; or even riding on a horse while finding the difference between red and green. And I've also tutored some of the most brilliant people, who excel in history and English but find integrating a cotangent difficult. I love being there for other people's journeys, because their path to success and learning helps me in mine.
