I'm an NYU graduate with an individualized study degree in contemporary literature and creative writing. While in college, I took classes with esteemed professors, including New York Times best-selling authors and New Yorker contributors like Zadie Smith, Jonathan Lethem, Nathan Englander, and Susan Orlean.

After a brief stint working in fashion merchandising, I earned my Master's in Teaching at the Relay Graduate School of Education in New York. I've been teaching English at the high school level for nine years, initially at the #1 charter high school in NYC at the time, where 92% of my students passed the NY English Regents (a graduate requirement) as 10th graders. I then moved to teach at the #1 public high school in New Hampshire, a blue-ribbon school, where I taught 9th-grade English, 10th-grade Composition, Fiction Writing and a rhetoric course called Power of Words.

While I've spent countless hours tutoring in the classroom, I've also periodically taken on tutoring gigs throughout my nine years as a teacher. I particularly enjoy working with students on personal essays, including college essays. I recently sat in on a talk from a Dartmouth College admissions counselor on the college essay and was pleased to hear that the advise I give students still holds true.

In my day-to-day job, I'm equally comfortable with high flyers and struggling readers and writers, English language learners, and have tons of experience adjusting curriculum and instruction to accommodate students with 504s and IEPs. I'm also well-suited for English Regents exam prep.

I hold professional certifications as a teacher in both New York and New Hampshire. Since obtaining my Master's, I continue to pursue ongoing education (30+ additional credits) in best practices for teaching writing, reading and reaching all students. I also maintain an ongoing writing practice. I'm currently working on a novel and screenplay, and I've had short stories published in small online publications.

Creative Writing

As an undergraduate, my concentration was in contemporary literature and creative writing. My coursework at NYU included workshops taught by New York Times bestsellers Zadie Smith, Jonathan Lethem, Nathan Englander and Susan Orlean. As a high school English teacher, I share my passion for building creative writing skills with all of my students and have been lucky enough to teach a Fiction Writing elective.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

For the last nine years, a large part of my full-time job has been teaching essay writing, particularly to 9th and 10th graders, including a Composition class which I've taught for 5 years. I have two professional certifications as a teacher in NY and NH. I also have a certification to teach AP Language + Composition.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

For my last nine years as a teacher, I've taught personal narratives in my classroom and helped countless students with their personal statements and supplemental essays during the college application season. Students I have worked with extensively have gone on to attend schools like Brown University, Smith College, University of Michigan, UVM, Colgate, University of Edinburgh, Northeastern, and Boston University. Two years ago, I attended a talk from Dartmouth admissions staff on the college essay, which I was happy to see aligned with the tips and advice I give students. My undergraduate concentration was focused on creative writing and included a Master's Creative Non-Fiction course led by New Yorker writer and New York Times best seller, Susan Orlean.
