my name is Jorge A. (also, Mr. A.). I am originally from Avilés, Asturias, in Northern Spain. I am a native speaker of Spanish. I came to the United States of America after graduating with a BA in English at the Universidad de Oviedo, in Spain, where I concentrated my research on English Renaissance literature, especially on William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, John Dryden, Aphra Behn, Elkanah Settle, Lodowick Carlell, etc. In Western Massachusetts, I took some graduate courses on language acquisition and methodology over a year in order to be granted my teaching diploma (CAP or Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica) in my home country by transferring the credits. At the University of Massachusetts-Amherst , I continued my studies and obtained my Masters in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics, with a concentration on the Spanish literature of the Golden Age, especially Lope de Vega. After that, I transferred to the University of Chicago, where I completed my Ph. D in Spanish, with a concentration on the works of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote. I never abandoned my studies at the Universidad de Oviedo and I completed a PhD in English, with a concentration on the English adaptations of Spanish plays during the reign of King Charles II in the second half of the seventeenth century.
Outside my graduate work, I like to extend my academic research to issues related to teaching and education. As my résumé will show in further detail, over the last nineteen years, I have worked hard to complement my teaching experience with theoretical knowledge on teaching and language acquisition. In the past, the University of Chicago has invited me to talk about my experience as an international instructor working across divisions in the College. Recently, I have been selected by the NHAWLT (New Hampshire Association of World Language Teachers) to give three lectures about the use of creative writing in order to teach culture in the L2 in the Spanish classroom, about how to address racism and cultural stereotypes

Jorge is great!
I hired Jorge to work with my 8th grader on strengthening her grammar, sentence/paragraph structure, and word choice. Jorge is patient, responsive, and encouraging. After only two sessions, my daughter already sees improvement. We’re very pleased!Lavita, 14 lessons with JorgeTutor responded:
Thanks, Lavita. I really enjoy working with your daughter. She is a really good student and is improving a lot in her writing. Looking forward to our next lesson on Monday.
Knowledgeable and fun tutor
Jorge has been tutoring my 14 year old son for couple of weeks now. He is knowledgeable, patient and fun. My son enjoys attending his sessions and says that Jorge makes learning Spanish fun. Jorge covers the beginning Spanish concepts and provides needed exercises for him. He provides extra practices to do after the session to make sure my son learns the concepts and goes over these the following session.Unal, 16 lessons with JorgeTutor responded:
Thanks, Unal. It is a pleasure to work with Ahmed. He is an intelligent boy.
Very knowledgable, friendly. Great guy.
First meeting: Went over fundamentals (Ser, Estar, Tener) I hadn't covered since 30 years ago. Really useful! Jorge and I spoke (to the extent I could) in Spanish, which was great. It gave me a sense of where I'm at and where I need to go to master the language going forward. Really looking forward to next meeting.Mike, 31 lessons with Jorge
Excellent Spanish Tutor
Jorge has been tutoring my daughter for the last month. She is in a 6th-grade Spanish dual immersion program. Jorge has been able to help her with grammar rules and academic vocabulary. He looks over her assignments and practices conversation with her. He is a native Spanish speaker and also speaks English well. Jorge is personable, friendly, and dependable.Michelle, 13 lessons with JorgeTutor responded:
Thanks, Michelle. I enjoy tutoring your daughter very much. She is great and is improving her oral skills a lot.
Jorge gave my daughter a lesson that really helped her to visualize what she was learning about. He was very patient and that made her very comfortable to talk a lot more!Carissa, 1 lesson with JorgeTutor responded:
Thanks, Carissa. Please let me know when you want to schedule another lesson.
meets students where they are at
My son has been working with Jorge now for a few weeks. Jorge took the time to get to know my son and how he learns best. He found things of common interest between the two of them and uses them as examples when teaching. Jorge challenges him (a good thing!), yet also makes sure he understands the current concept before moving on. He provides him with content to use for practice between lessons as well. My son looks forward to his sessions with Jorge. I would strongly recommend him as a Spanish mentor / tutor. He is very qualified and quite approachable!Wendy, 21 lessons with JorgeTutor responded:
Thanks, Wendy, for your nice words. I am always looking forward to working with your son. He is a really good student and he is improving a lot.
Communicative and patient
We studied irregular verbs--which are extremely difficult to absorb. Jorge and I reviewed common irregular verbs and used them in sentences.Alison, 9 lessons with Jorge
