Hello. I am an experienced mathematics teacher/tutor who has taught/tutored at middle school, all through high school, to college, and graduate school. My degrees are in mathematics (MS) and mathematics education (BSMEd). I have been involved in many aspects of mathematics education including scoring AP Calculus exams, running Challenge 24 contests, professional development for mathematics teachers at the elementary and secondary school levels, creating a mathematics question-answering internet service called Ask Prof. Maths with my students, running Math Counts contests at the state level, helping to create the end-of-year high school math contest for my state, and many others.
I believe that although algorithmic thinking and deductive reasoning is critically important in mathematics, so are conceptual thinking, inductive reasoning, mental mathematics, and making connections. Questions that I often ask are: What do you expect? Does this make sense? Is your answer reasonable?
If you are looking for a tutor that will just "answer my questions" then I am not the right tutor for you. If you are looking for a tutor that will challenge your understanding, believe in your ability to make connections, and honor your insights, then I may be the right tutor for you.
