I understand how difficult this time is for young families. Being a parent or caregiver AND a your child's teacher can be very trying. For 20 years I taught struggling learners as a Title I Reading & Writing Specialist. I worked with students in grades K-5 in all subjects, not just reading. I am also an experienced volunteer tutor for students through grade 12. if your family cannot afford my set rate, please contact me anyway. I am sure we can work something out.

Ironically, even though I became a Reading & Writing Specialist, math was always my strength and my favorite subject. I am comfortable tutoring students through Algebra.

Although handwriting has lost favor in most elementary school classrooms, many of my students asked me to teach them how to write in cursive. I was always happy to comply. Also, basic letter formation in the early grades is critically important. Did you know that students who wrote out their SAT essay responses in longhand, outperformed those who typed?

Phonological awareness, phonemics and phonics are the foundation for literacy development. Without these firmly in place, a student will struggle not only with learning to read, but also with reading in all subjects throughout their educational career.
