Hi, I'm Karin! I was a high school math teacher for 30 years, and I am an adjunct math professor at the local community college where many of my students are adults, as well. I have taught every class from Pre-Algebra through Calculus at the high school level, and I currently teach College Algebra and Quantitative Reasoning at the college. I have spent my career helping students realize that they can do math, and that even if their past math experiences weren't positive, their time with me always is. In addition to teaching, I have tutored throughout the years for students at many levels from middle school through college. I began my tutoring journey as an undergrad in college as my first part time job and have worked for many programs over the years. I have provided support to literally thousands of students. I believe my experience makes me the perfect fit not only for students who are struggling, but those who are looking to get ahead and those learning online for any number of reasons. I have tutored and taught both online and in person. I am proficient using online math learning platforms and also being able to type math so that students can see exactly what I am talking about. In my evaluations, students frequently comment how their class experience with me was the first time they ever really understood math. My goal is to speak about math using every day language that helps students connect what they are learning to what they already know. As we work through assignments, I look for gaps in student knowledge so I can help build their base, making them stronger learners and stronger mathematicians. After all, the way to be a math person is simple: do math, and be a person! I can help you learn to be a math person today. I am easy to reach, and always respond within 24 hours. I will spend our sessions building on your prior knowledge, using language that is accessible, working at your pace and ensuring that when we stop, you are able to continue learning and practicing confidently on your own.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra to all levels of students from middle school to college and adults for over 30 years. I can explain it in words that make sense for all students. Once a student can "speak" the language of math, everything else falls into place.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have taught all Algebra concepts from pre-Algebra to the Algebra needed for Calculus for over 30 years. I love taking difficult concepts and breaking them down so that students can understand what is being asked and how to apply the concepts.
Geometry

Geometry

Algebra and Geometry require opposite sides of the brain! Geometry falls into the Visual/Spatial intelligence category. I can help students "see" how the concepts work and why the different rules apply to different shapes. We can also explore the connection between Algebra and Geometry. Did you know that the term "squared" in Algebra comes from the area of a square in Geometry?
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

If the foundation you build in Pre-Algebra is strong, it will carry you all the way through high school and beyond. I can help you "see" how numbers work, the relationships between them, and why this information is so important. It can also be fun if you know the right activities! I can help you learn in a way that might not even feel like learning!
Precalculus

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus is often that class where students who previously performed well hit the wall. I am here to help you over that wall with easy to understand explanations and building on the base you built in Algebra. If I find gaps in your previous knowledge base, we will fill those as we go.
Probability

Probability

Every day, we are presented with information from the world around us. Probability helps us organize and explain what we are seeing. After decades of teaching all levels of math, I can help you wade through all those word problems to pick out the key information and figure out how to apply it. Problem solving in probability can help you think critically in any area, and I can help you be more successful in your class.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Standardized tests like the SAT aren't just measuring your math skills; they are measuring your ability to recall skills AND apply them in unique and varied situations. I can help you break down what the problems are asking you for, recall the skills needed to do the different parts of the problem, then apply those skills to the new question. You will have the opportunity to talk through problems and figure out to test better and receive higher scores.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

The name Trigonometry just sounds scary, but when you realize it's root words come from triangle measure, it doesn't sound so intimidating. I can help you understand the concepts and see the relationships that you might have missed. Learning how to organize information is as important to success in this math area as the formulas are.
