I focus on a wide range of writing and reading topics, including an emphasis on student expression to build students' confidence in their writing voice. I employ a scaffolding approach to writing instruction, allowing us to break down complex tasks, such as rhetorical synthesis, into clear and engaging activities, like short evaluation tests and summarizing practice that requires students to elicit and articulate conclusions from multiple sources. This approach allows students to observe their own progress in areas such as sentence clarity, logical flow, successful paraphrasing, accurate quoting, conciseness, tone development, and source integration in persuasive writing.
We will collaborate to develop a learning path by our second session that supports the learning goals of the student. This plan can incorporate a variety of needs for test preparation or literacy. I am a trained and certified ESL teacher, so this plan can also accommodate students who want to focus on vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation. Additionally, I provide editing and detailed revision guidance for papers and essays, including a marked copy of the written work with notes.
