I have been in education, K through graduate school, since 1974. My early focus was in music education but through graduate school, I became certified in History and English. I love to write and have skills in grammar and APA style that can be very helpful to students from very young to very old. My history expertise is in European to American but I have had additional interests in global history. I love learning and have taught in nearly every aspect of my educational history; I am currently teaching graduate courses in teacher motivation and educational psychology which require the students to submit assignments in APA style and grammatically correct.
I can help students from grades 5 through graduate school in language arts and writing, history, music, graduate studies in education, and in applying technology in education. My own children developed a 'love of learning' that carried them into the professional careers of law, English, and Speech Pathology--and I believe I can transfer these skills of a love of learning to others.
Due to my constant focus on writing for the past 40 years and with editing a few dissertations and published books, this wealth of experience can directly apply to helping others be successful in writing proficiently.
First of all, I was a certified History teacher according to my South Dakota teaching certificate and my development of writing a history curriculum, K-12, has given me great experience in the study of history.
My undergraduate degree is in Music Education and I taught music for 7 years in grades 5-12. My major was in instrumental music with a minor in vocal but I taught music appreciation to 7th and 8th graders and to an adult class in the past. My interest in music has never decreased even though I was a school administrator for 21 years.
My minor in counseling in earning my masters in administration provides me with an empathy for struggling
students. I can help raise grades and test scores in language arts, grammar, writing, music history and appreciate, European and American History and those that might challenged at the graduate level in educational courses. My teaching and administrative experience combined, give me a more rounded appreciation for tutoring and an understanding of how to prepare for tests. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
