I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy, and extensive experience in the tutoring industry. I am able to tutor most subjects at a high school level, and can offer mathematics tutoring at all levels, be it K-12 or college level.

I have tutored pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, combinatorics, SAT & ACT prep (all subjects), creative writing, and high school biology, & geoscience. I also offer guitar lessons.

I am passionate about tutoring mathematics. And I think that mathematics as a subject lends itself to one-on-one tutoring. My experience is that through one-on-one instruction, most students who are below grade level on math can get caught up, and most gifted students are able to excel beyond the confines of what the school system offers.

Mathematics in a classroom setting is boring. It usually consists of the instructor teaching a formula for solving a certain type of problem, and then the students applying that same formula over and over again. In any class of twenty students, four or five find the mathematics too simple (and therefore boring), and another group are too far behind (and therefore bored). When I was in high school, I remember constantly asking my teacher questions, only to get an answer of, "that's outside the scope of this class." That won't happen in a one-on-one session with me.

I contend that math at any level can be taught in a way that encourages the student to think critically, rather than dictating to them how the problem is solved, and then doing the same type of problem over and over with different numbers. Especially one-on-one tutoring. When I tell people I majored in mathematics, usually the response it, "ugh, I HATE math." But that's a shame, because mathematics is a beautiful thing. And I think through one-on-one tutoring, I can help give people that spark.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, and over two years experience as a K-12 Mathematics educator as Program Coordinator for my local chapter of Math Motivators, which is a non-profit initiative which provides math tutoring for children in low-income communities. I have also worked in other roles in the tutoring industry such as an AVID tutor, and as a private tutor working directly with parents. I have probably tutored Algebra 1 more than any other subject. I have enough experience to know different strategies of instruction, and which things students most often struggle with.
Biology

Biology

In my time as a tutor, I have tutored many scientific subjects at a high school level, including biology, chemistry, physics & geology. I love science, I find it endlessly inspiring -- in the words of Carl Sagan, "We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." My favorite part about tutoring science experiencing students' scientific curiosity, and the discussions that can be fostered in a one-on-one context.
Geometry

Geometry

I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and over 2 years experience tutoring Geometry & Trigonometry.
Guitar

Guitar

I am a self-taught guitarist. I've been playing for 8, going on 9 years now as of 2023. I can teach left hand and right hand technique at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level, whether it's fingerstyle or with a pick, electric or acoustic. I am also able to teach the basics of music theory.
Music Production

Music Production

I am able to teach what I've learned about recording techniques, including mic placement, software fluency, audio manipulation and repair, as well as mixing and mastering. I primarily use Ableton Live, Melodyne and Audacity, and can help students become familiar with those tools.
Music Theory

Music Theory

As a self-taught guitarist with over 8 years of experience, I would be able to teach basic music theory in a guitar context.
Philosophy

Philosophy

I minored in philosophy in college, and have studied works of philosophy out of interest since graduating. I am not familiar with every subject in philosophy (needless to say) , but I do have some formal undergraduate education in philosophy and would even be willing to read works of philosophy along with a student if I haven't already.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and over 2 years experience in the tutoring industry. I particularly enjoy tutoring upper-level high school subjects like Precalculus and Calculus, as I find it more engaging to teach than earlier math classes.
Songwriting

Songwriting

I am a songwriter with over 9 years of experience. My song won the CCHA award for Best Song in 2023.
