I hold a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as an M.A. in English and a B.A. in English and Philosophy. My academic background combines literary analysis, rhetoric, composition, research, and critical thinking.

I bring more than 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I currently teach AP English Language and Composition, 11th Grade English, and 12th Grade English at Omaha South High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to returning to Nebraska, I spent sixteen years as a university professor, including service as a tenured Associate Professor of English. I have taught composition, literature, Shakespeare, technical writing, critical thinking, and research methods. I also directed writing centers at two universities, where I trained and supervised peer tutors and worked one-on-one with students on writing, reading, and study skills.

My tutoring style is student-centered and practical. Rather than simply providing answers, I help students learn how to think through problems, analyze texts, organize ideas, strengthen arguments, improve grammar and style, and develop confidence as independent learners. I tailor each session to the student's goals, whether that means improving grades, preparing for AP courses, strengthening reading comprehension, writing stronger essays, or building foundational academic skills.

I have worked with students ranging from high school through college, including honors students, first-generation college students, English language learners, and students who simply need extra support and encouragement. My experience includes classroom teaching, one-on-one tutoring, writing center consultations, online instruction, and mentoring independent research projects. Above all, I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking intellectual risks, and developing the skills they need for long-term success.

College Counseling

I have over twenty years of experience helping students navigate academic expectations at both the high school and college levels. I hold a Ph.D. in English from the University of Maryland and have served as both a college professor and a high school English teacher, giving me insight into what colleges expect from applicants and incoming students. I regularly advise students on college essays, academic planning, Advanced Placement coursework, and college readiness skills. My approach combines practical guidance with individualized coaching to help students identify their strengths, clarify their goals, and present themselves effectively in the admissions process.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

Essay writing is my area of greatest expertise. I have taught composition, rhetoric, and research writing for more than 25 years at both the high school and university levels, including AP English Language and Composition and first-year college writing. As a former Writing Center Director and tenured English professor, I have helped hundreds of students develop stronger thesis statements, organize arguments, integrate evidence, and revise for clarity and style. Whether a student is struggling to get started or polishing a college admissions essay, research paper, or literary analysis, I focus on helping them become more confident, effective writers.
