I’m Logan. I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a bachelor’s in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. Though I’m new to tutoring as a medium, I’ve had a wide array of teaching experiences over the years: as a selection, I taught in a BSA troop for a cumulative 2.5 years as an Instructor in a patrol; I had extensive teaching experience from one-on-one instruction and the EDGE method to troop-wide classroom-style teaching of all ages; before college, I volunteered to repurpose old computers and teach families how to use them; and I’ve been a TA for the past two semesters in college. I want to translate this experience into better student results, understanding, and experiences. On top of this teaching experience, I regularly explore various fields: it’s a prominent hobby of mine. I hope I can pass that on to my students, even just a little.
If it wasn’t obvious already, I love education be it the teaching of others or learning things myself. It’s this love that’s pushed me to tutoring. It’s also this love and my experiences that’ve made my teaching style a little odd. Often, I’ll start with a pretest either to determine prior understanding or as a technique inspired by the Pretesting Effect. Once this is done and/or prior experience has been determined, I’ll introduce the topic. It depends on the topic how this is accomplished, but I tend to use examples and visuals rather liberally. After that, I go through the topic in detail with the student at their pace using practice problems, testing, and different learning techniques as deemed necessary. Finally, at the end I like to provide a collection of practice problems for the student to work on as they please outside instruction. If requested, I’ll help develop a study plan.
