Hi! My name is Sydney and I am a current fourth year medical student with a passion for teaching the biologic and medical sciences.
I graduated college with a bachelor's in biomedical sciences in 2021 before applying to medical school. It was through my high school and college years that I learned that even the more challenging science courses became more enjoyable and easier to understand when you could apply them to the real world, rather than just the exam. My favorite professors and teachers often used these real-life cases and examples that allowed me to not just understand the concepts they were teaching, but to also truly remember the information for more than just the exam.
In my first year of medical school, I designed and taught an intro to infectious diseases summer course for high school students interested in health care careers. We discussed many interesting infectious diseases, like Ebola, Malaria, and Polio through the lens of high school level biology and genetic concepts. I found throughout this course students were able to realize there are ways to study the science classes they may have dreaded previously in a way that is exciting and fun.
I have acted as a peer tutor throughout high school, college, and now medical school, allowing for one-on-one time to talk through and solidify concepts at their own pace. I strive to create a learning environment where no question is a silly question, as asking questions means we are learning. I would love to help tutor students through high school, college, and graduate levels in subjects relating to biology, anatomy, physiology, and healthcare. Overall, I am comfortable with tutoring a variety of science courses and would love to talk about each student’s specific needs. In addition, for those seeking exam prep: I have taken the MCAT exam, as well as USMLE STEP 1 and STEP 2. I would love to students develop study strategies and plans as well as share things I found helpful in my journey and mistakes to avoid.
