Hello! I have an MFA in Creative Writing from NYU and a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, and I'm currently pursuing a second Master's degree in Computer Science. My family background includes Vlad Tepes (the real Dracula). I have taught Creative Writing to Undergraduate students at New York University; Advanced ESL and Writing at Kaplan International College (also NYC); I've done online tutoring and college essay writing at The Princeton Review; and taught in the English department at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska; I've been teacher in New York City Public Schools where I helped students create an anthology of poetry for publication; among many other places.

I began my teaching journey by teaching ESL in Japan, back in 2005, and I stayed there for a few years. More recently, I have been teaching online since the pandemic as an advisor and writing teacher. I also teach online with younger students aged 10-16.

I really enjoy tutoring students of all ages. I enjoy seeing that aha! moment when a student understands how to tackle a problem.
I teach using a growth mindset: I believe all students are intelligent and have the ability to achieve their desired educational goals. My lessons and mentoring are inquiry-based and open, but I always provide a solid structure to work with once I understand what the student needs.

My Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology was obtained from Portland State University, where I graduated summa cum laude in 2005. As a student I studied African Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Physical Anthropology, Linguistics and other areas under the umbrella of Anthropology. My focus for my degree was Cultural Anthropology. Since then I have written several ethnographies and been invited to lecture on the subject matter including at conferences sponsored by NYU, and CUNY. I have travelled abroad to a number of countries as part of ethnographic research in Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan and France. I recently participated in a residency in Northern France and interviewed immigrant populations there for a journalistic work as a collaborative effort.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University. I am a novelist with five books of fiction, two works of non fiction and poetry published. I won awards, grants and fellowships including from PEN America, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts (NY), The New York Foundation for the Arts, An NYU Writers in the Public Schools Fellowship and &Now Award. A selection of my publications include the following books: You Are Make Very Important Bathtime (Journal of Experimental Fiction, 2013); LIFE+70[Redacted](Lit Fest Press, 2016), Blink if You Love Me (Adelaide Books, 2023); Workday[CAPTCHA Poems](BlazeVOX Books, 2025); and Premieres (BlazeVOX, 2026); I have a book of journalism forthcoming in the fall of 2026 from Journal of Experimental Fiction entitled Disruptives: Literary Interviews 2006-2026. I have taught Creative Writing classes specifically fiction and poetry to Undergraduate students at New York University and New York City Public Schools through a Teachers & Writers Fellowship as well as in Brooklyn, NY at the Academy for Young Writers. In addition, I have been tutoring and teaching Creative Writing classes online since 2019.

I began studying Computer Science as a side-hobby in 2018, and soon started working as a Junior Developer with Javascript and J-Query on a freelance basis. I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Analytics.

I started my English Language teaching career in Japan in 2005 and stayed teaching both children and adults until 2009. Since then, I have taught foreign language students at Kaplan International College in New York City and online; I currently teach via speaking lessons at Berlitz Japan. One of my favorite hobbies as a kid was to stare at the Atlas of the World and the "map room" we had in our family home. Later, in college I studied Anthropology and always gravitated towards maps; now, as an instructor online, I have been teaching Geography classes using a curriculum that I designed, incorporating all the aspects of Geographic study: human systems, regions, geolocation, place and space, environmental interaction. I am a published novelist, journalist and poet. I have had a lifelong love for literature so continue to reread the classics such as Dostoyevsky, Joyce, Beckett, Poe, Dickens, Stein, Williams, Faulkner, and more in both American and European traditions. I have worked with best-selling authors at New York University and throughout my career.

As a college essay writing tutor, I have worked with hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students across the United States on a 1-to-1 basis online with The Princeton Review (tutor.com) and doing independent work as a freelancer. For essays, I focus first on the higher order of concerns, meaning the big picture of the essay; once the major parts are in great shape we work together towards next steps. I have also taught essay writing for younger students even as young as 10 or 11. All ages may apply. Fiction and poetry writing are another specialty. I have several books published and commercially available.
