Hi, I'm Katherine! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Carroll University with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Communication. I then transitioned into a graduate program at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where I am currently specializing in physical chemistry. During my undergraduate career, I worked for three years as a Supplemental Instructor for general chemistry courses 1 and 2. This role involved meeting with students weekly and providing them with extra study materials such as practice examinations and collaborative class activities. In graduate school, I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach recitation sessions, both in general and physical chemistry courses. I will be happy to share all of the resources I have from this position (plus more!) as your tutor.
In addition to classroom experience, I also have a background in tutoring. I have been tutoring multiple students in general chemistry courses every semester since starting graduate school, and have received nothing but positive feedback. Tutoring is one of the most meaningful parts of my job; I look forward to every week’s sessions.
To me, chemistry tutors need more than an adequate understanding of the topics being covered. Tutors need to know how to relate to students and explain the concepts in ways that are accessible. In many ways, learning a science is like learning a foreign language, and that takes patience and diligence. I so enjoy working with students and getting them to a place where they are fluent in chemistry. I believe that every student can get to that point!
