Hello! I am a middle school teacher with more than 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have a degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Endorsement and concentrations in math, social studies, and science. Over the years, I have taught students in grades 4-8, with most of my experience in a combined 7th- and 8th-grade classroom. I currently teach Math, English, World History, World Geography, and Spelling/Vocabulary. I have also tutored both at a learning center and independently during the summer. I enjoy working with students one-on-one because it gives me the opportunity to identify exactly where a student is struggling and explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them.
Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach, especially Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. My goal is not simply to show students how to get the right answer, but to help them understand why the steps work. When possible, I show students different ways to approach a problem so we can find the method that makes the most sense for them. I especially enjoy helping students who struggle with math or have lost confidence in their abilities. I encourage students to see mistakes as part of learning and to recognize that math is a skill they can improve with practice. I can help students with homework, difficult concepts, test and quiz preparation, and strengthening foundational skills. I also have extensive experience teaching English and writing and can help students organize and write strong paragraphs and essays, as well as improve grammar, sentence structure, proofreading, and editing. Whether you need help with tonight’s homework, preparing for an upcoming test, or getting started on an essay, I provide patient, clear instruction and work to help each student become a more confident and independent learner.
