I have always loved English and all aspects of writing. I have a bachelors degree from EMU with a concentration in Journalism. I volunteered as a writing fellow at Monroe County Community College for a year before transferring to EMU. My areas of expertise includes essays, research papers, creative writing, and journalistic writing. As a writing fellow I helped students determine how to organize their paper and what revisions needed to be made. I'm a strong believer in allowing the student to read his or her paper aloud and discuss what they want to say. Simply allowing the student's authentic voice to come through is a major achievement.
I can also assist in helping a student organize/research a research paper. As a writing fellow I was responsible for learning everything there is to know about research. As your tutor I would help you break down the research process into manageable steps and understand how to use the material you find. I've found many students feel overwhelmed and unsure of their abilities. Let me help you overcome the initial fear!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
