Hi, I'm Heather! I'm currently a student teacher at Westside High School and working toward my Bachelor's degree in mathematics education to pursue my dream of becoming a math teacher. I actually began college as a computer science major, but after a year in a cybersecurity program, I discovered how much I loved the math involved. I found myself eagerly helping classmates with math concepts and quickly realized my passion was in teaching. I changed majors and have since had the opportunity to teach lessons and activities in three high schools and one middle school under the guidance of incredible cooperating teachers.
Soon after switching majors, I applied to be a math tutor at my college - and was hired on the spot! Over the next three years, I developed my tutoring skills through both in-person and online sessions and completed training through the College Reading and Learning Association to become a Master Certified Tutor. During my final year in the role, I also served as the department’s first Student Coordinator, where I supported other tutors by guiding them through training, answering their questions, and sharing effective tutoring strategies to help students succeed.
What I love most about tutoring is the relationships it builds and the growth I get to witness in each student. My number one goal as your tutor is to help you gain confidence in math, because I truly believe everyone can learn, understand, and thrive in mathematics. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions. I’m here to support you!
