Northwestern College (Spanish and K-8 Gen.)
As a professional educator, I have a deep love and understanding of students of all ages. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish and Elementary Education with K-12 Spanish teaching and K-8 Reading Endorsements from Northwestern College in 2010, and have been teaching professionally since then. I truly believe that everyone is able to learn and succeed with proper instruction and application; I will do my best to help you excel in your studies.
I have been studying and using Spanish for over 14 years. I am currently a Jr. / Sr. High School Spanish Teacher, and I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish with a K-12 Spanish teaching endorsement; I currently hold a Nebraska teaching license for K-12 Spanish teaching. I am a native English speaker, so I understand the acquisition and struggles of learning a foreign language, but I am also able to effectively communicate with native Spanish speakers as I am fluent in the Spanish language. I often translate for parent/school meetings in our school district and I teach non-credit Spanish courses at SCC in Beatrice. I have translated for 5 missions trips to Mexico and have studied abroad for 4 months in Seville, Spain. I am also recently starting a Spanish club within our high school to further deepen students' understanding of the culture, history, and language of the Spanish speaking people.
I also currently hold a license for teaching K-8 elementary with the State of Nebraska. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I have over 14 credit hours of Elementary Education Student Teaching, and I have spent approximately 350 hours of volunteer teaching in elementary classrooms.
My Nebraska teaching license also includes a K-8 Reading Endorsement. Areas of study for this endorsement include, but are not limited to: phonics, reading fluency and comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. I have been trained in DIBELS testing and evaluation and correcting Reading difficulties.
I am confident that I will be able to help guide you to a greater understanding of your tutoring topics. I look forward to hearing from you soon and working with you to achieve your goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
