Hello! I'm Angel! I spent 4 1/2 years studying at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, and while there I received my Bachelor's in History as a liberal art. My experience at UNC taught me that students did their best when professors captured their interest. I started my professional education as a math major, but due to my own disinterest in that field I found I had to change subjects to ensure I would finish college. My history professors captured my imagination better than any other department could, and because of them I graduated with a true love for History and Historiography. It has been my goal since I graduated to pass this knowledge and love of history off to anyone who is keen to learn and understand past human experiences.
I am new to the formal tutoring world, but my lack of experience in this space is more than outmatched by my eagerness to pass on knowledge of history. In informal settings I have tutored many fellow students and a few of my own family in an effort to give them extra tools to succeed. I have employed lesson plans in more formal settings and would easily be able to prepare and present such plans depending on student preference and necessity. My preferred method to teach is by first introducing a topic or event by asking an open ended question to gauge students familiarity with the subject and start narrowing in their mind on what is to come. After a small discussion on the question I present the core of the subject in a concise presentation that covers the main points while leaving room for further discussion. After the presentation is over I invite the student or students to participate in further discussion about what they learned and why they think it is important or what they still question. I have found this method works for both individual students and groups of 5 or more. I teach history in more of this discussion-based way because history is not completely known to anyone, it is like looking through a foggy window.
