Sandy has 30 years of experience in management, teaching, advising and curriculum development in and out of the U.S.A. She is a university graduate with Masters of Management from Cambridge College where she also developed a program to fill in the gaps for English Language Learners. She has taught adults for many years and specializes in preparing them for entering college to fulfill their lifelong dreams. She is the author of the ESL course English in 24 Hours and develops content-based ESL curriculum to ensure that adults receive a more focused, accelerated preparation while they are studying English as a Second Language. She has taught courses related to Certificates for Interpreters and has worked with many nonprofits in outreach to families and parents whose primary language is English.
Sandy is fluent in Portuguese and has conversational Spanish. Her 16 years in Brazil included having 8 children who are trilingual and founding a successful school to teach English and Portuguese.
Even in a group or in a classroom Sandy has had much experience in understanding the different learning styles, teaching styles and special needs which translates into a very individual approach to helping each one learn to their ability.
Sandy tutors for the following subjects and test preparation: TOEFL, SAT (reading and writing), GED and for Statewide and college preparatory exams. Writing, composition and writing for any level from grade school through college and any type of exam plus business courses, term papers and ILPs are also part of Sandy’s specialties. Help with English as a Second Language on all levels and Portuguese are provided also. Spanish-speaking students are welcome. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

With Portuguese and Spanish as her second and third languages, Sandy founded her own ESOL center in Santos, Brazil in the 1980s. Since 1994 she has been in the US teaching in many different environments including colleges and universities, ESOL schools, public and private, and individual sessions. Hundreds of adults have advanced in their studies and improved their quality of life after learning English with Sandy and the programs that she has developed to help them reach their goals in their country of adoption, the US, and in their own countries. As a teacher for adults for the past 30 years, Sandy has had to incorporate general computer skills into almost all of her classes, including preparation for college for adults who are returning to classes after many years. Many adults did not have the opportunity to learn basic computer skills in school, as is now the norm, and many have given up their personal computers to others in their household for lack of knowledge in general usage. No matter what your purpose is for computer usage, Sandy is able to help you gain confidence in beginning to use your own computer or one at the public library.
Sandy, a veteran teacher of students from many different cultures, age groups and languages, is committed to helping each individual to discover what will help them to advance in their classes and ensure progress in school. Good study skills are essential to be successful in any learning environment, for any class, and also for progress in self-study. From the very first session, each student is evaluated to determine his/her unique learning style and then clear steps are developed to be practiced and used by the learner. Sandy believes that as a tutor she has the opportunity and time to pay attention to the individual needs of each student which in turn brings about positive results every time.
