Hi there! My name is James and I'd love to be your math tutor!
I’ve loved math ever since I could add, and I understand what it takes to be successful in every level of math. In highschool I scored a a 790 and a 35 on the math portions of both the SAT and ACT. I also got a perfect score on Math Level II SAT subject test as well as 5’s on the AP Calc BC and AP Statistics tests.
After graduating valedictorian of my highschool class, I studied engineering and statistics at NC State University(go pack!). I graduated Magna Cum Laude from NC State in 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Statistics.
Throughout high school and college, I tutored my peers in my free time as a way to make a little extra money. Over time, I grew to love teaching more and more. What started as a side hustle quickly turned into a passion of mine. So much so that when I graduated, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else besides teaching. After graduating, I got a job as a math and science tutor at Cape Fear Community College. There, I tutored students in math subjects ranging from quantitative literacy to Calc III. Since CFCC is a community college, I got to work with students with wide-ranging math skills. There, I tutored dual-enrolled high school students, US veterans trying to advance their education, and everyone in-between.
All of my experience, both as a tutor and as a student, has given me valuable insights into what it takes to create and sustain a good tutoring relationship. I prioritize getting to know my students because I believe the human element of tutoring is as important as the subject matter. Everyone learns differently, and it’s my job as a tutor to teach in a way that best suits you.
Whatever "success in math" means to you, I'm here to help you achieve it.
