I LOVE teaching international adults! English is more than a language: it's a culture, too. And as I teach you, you teach me. I specialize in teaching intermediates, and advanced level learners in grammar, reading, writing, listening. English conversation, business English, and TOELF preparation.

I have a master's degree in foreign language education. The foreign language is English. I received this degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. I have taught people from Japan, Korea, Brazil, Venezuela, Italy, Spain, Portugal, China, Thailand, Eritrea, Yeman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and several others as well. My travels have taken me as far east as Slovakia and as far west as Japan. As far north as Alaska and Iceland, and as far south as Barbados.

I am a Christian mother and wife. My husband is from Scotland, but we met in Portugal. My children are 22 and 17, a girl and a boy. We live in Tulsa, Oklahoma with our golden retriever, Lily. I enjoy reading, walking, thinking, listening to music, coffee with friends, watching movies and TV, and baking.

My training in ESL comes from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. In 1992 I received my Master's in Education for Foreign Language with English being the foreign language. I initially taught ESL in an intensive language school called CELL - Center for English Language Learning at Maryville College in Maryville, TN from 1989 - 1992. I taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced level students in grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening. I also did this in Nashville, TN at the International English Institute from 1995-1996. I have also taught many private lessons in Tennessee, Portugal, and Pennsylvania. While in Portugal I taught EFL classes at Lancaster College but not in an intensive language situation. While there I was also able to teach at the university in Covilha 1992-1995. Most of my private lesson students have been adults, but I have also taught middle school students. My private lesson experience has been over many years in many places 1990 - 2017. I have lived in Allentown, PA for 7 years and have also taught ESL reading and listening/speaking for Lehigh Carbon Community College at the Donley Center.

I have taught English to both English speakers and non-English speakers. I've even proofread a few books. I can't stand it when there is a grammar error. It drives me crazy!

I have helped several people prepare for the TOEFL examination since 2013. I prefer to have at least a month to help you prepare, but this requires essay writing on your part. Working from a preparation book, we work through writing and reading as well as speaking and listening. Thankfully the different parts of the exam complement each other so that once you understand one part of it, another part is easier to work on.

Great help in short time!!

Due to my busy work schedule and a lot of traveling it was not easy for me to find a tutor who would be flexible and would fit my busy travel schedule. Kathryn was very flexible and she was able to prepare me for TOEFL in a short time. Kathryn has a lot of experience with English tutoring and she was very helpful with improving my weak points for TOEFL. She was able to immediately pick up my weaknesses and clearly explain how to correct them. The result of our lessons was that I did really well on my exam - it exceeded my target score! I value highly her tutoring skills and experience in preparation for my TOEFL exam.
