I hold a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology from Fayetteville State University, where I graduated magna cum laude and remained on the Chancellor’s List throughout my academic career. My background combines strong academic training with real-world experience in science, research, manufacturing, and behavioral health, allowing me to help students connect abstract concepts to practical understanding rather than memorization alone.
My tutoring approach begins with assessment rather than immediate correction. I ask students to walk me through how they approach problems so I can identify what they understand, where confusion begins, and how they think through material. I adapt explanations to each student’s learning style by rephrasing concepts, using analogies, breaking ideas into manageable steps, or working through examples together. I prioritize understanding over speed so students can apply concepts independently and with confidence.
I have over four years of experience tutoring middle school through college-level math and science in one-on-one, group, volunteer, and private settings, including tutoring through Care.com. I have worked extensively with students who felt behind or lacked a structured curriculum, creating individualized study plans and practice materials as needed. My experience as a Registered Behavior Technician and swim instructor has strengthened my ability to work patiently with students of different ages, abilities, and learning needs.
I also emphasize long-term learning skills such as study strategies, guided practice, and teach-back methods so students can succeed beyond tutoring sessions. My goal is to help students feel capable, supported, and confident in their ability to learn.
