I have been helping students to prepare for standardized tests for almost two decades. I have worked for several tutoring companies, including Kaplan, and I have 4 years of experience as a classroom teacher.
Every student is different, and one on one tutoring is the best way to ensure that students will receive the precise type and amount of instruction and practice necessary to achieve their goals.
Tutoring is incredibly rewarding for me and it is often even more rewarding for my students. I see the process of preparing for the SAT/ACT or the GRE/LSAT as something more than just a means to an end. I am inspired by the fact that many students are forever changed for the better after they have worked hard to achieve an ambitious goal.

Joe has been working on SAT prep with my daughter since the Fall. When she first took the SATs her composite score was good, but not good enough for the schools my daughter was considering. Between her hard work and Joe's tutoring she has raised her composite score 280 points to 2100. She is now receiving letters of interest from Ivy League Colleges. Joe has been particularly helpful teaching my daughter time management and strategies for the math section. There is no question that part of my daughter's improvement is due to her own hard work, but from my perspective Joe has delivered!
My son's comments were that he's already learned several test taking skills he wishes he'd known earlier and that Joe never made him feel bad for not knowing how to work through the math problems. I've scheduled more sessions.
Joe has been very helpful tutoring my daughter to prepare for the SAT. He is thorough and attentive to the gaps and knows how to address them. I am grateful to Joe for tutoring and coaching my daughter to get great SAT scores. Joe is a highly competent and skilled tutor and he has my highest recommendation.
My daughter is very happy with Joe and he is patient tutoring with her. She is getting a great deal of helpful work and learning a lot. He is doing a wonderful job.
Joe is tutoring my son for the Oct 5th SAT. My son didn't score very high on the June SAT, so I set up a couple tutoring sessions with Joe and so far, so good. Joe is wonderful to work with as a parent. He responds quickly to my emails and always tries to accommodate our schedule, location, subject matter, etc. I feel that he connects well with my son- works on his level, but at the same time challenges him to perform better with each SAT practice section. He has some great test tips and helpful advice for anyone taking these entrance exams. He is also able to explain the answers to my teen, where I can't. (last time I worked calculus problems was 20 yrs ago!) I truly believe that Joe will make a huge difference with test scores this Oct.
Thank you! My son is having a great learning experience! I appreciate such fast feedback and response on his progress! He seems very motivated!
Glad we found Joe- my son came out of the lesson with a big smile on his face!! He said "Now it makes sense- I think this guy's going to help me pass Algebra." Good job!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
