Hello, I'm your university art prof & tutor. With 10+ years of experience teaching college-level studio art, digital art, and art history, I’ll guide you to reaching your next level in art. I’ve taught art & design online for four years, hold an MFA in Painting from Yale, studied digital art at the School of Visual Arts NYC, and completed hands-on art research in West Africa. My artwork has won first place awards and is exhibited internationally. I work with all varieties of painting & drawing - and sculpture. I have special interests in interdisciplinary art + merging digital art with artwork wrought by hand. I teach Photoshop and am familiar with digital drawing, animation, and 3D modeling apps for devices.
I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your next level in art.
With best regards, Maria O

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

There are so many useful applications... yet Photoshop is the one I just can't live without. Once you're acclimated, I think you'll feel the same way. I'm happy to help you get started or help with sorting through an intermediate or advanced project. For those new to Photoshop notice that it's best used for photo-based work or artwork involving gradients. Managing file size can be important as files that are too small will look pixelated, and files that are too large can result in huge PDFs or cause web pages/slide shows to load slowly ~
Art History

Art History

The fascinating histories and theories of art tie it to the wider world of cultures and beyond. As an artist and instructor I value deep research for purposes of setting art in context as well as for mining valuable, new content for use with making art. Connecting studies with the "here and now” motivates us to be curious. Strategies for managing original writing about art enable us to clarify and communicate our findings.

Drawing

Drawing

I teach all varieties of drawing and have special interests in digital drawing/animation using the free Adobe app, Fresco and combining artwork wrought by hand with digital art. I teach color theory through drawing and connect lessons with the "here and now" to bring them to life. Tell me about what you like to draw and drawings you'd like to make in future ~

Painting

I teach oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting and about painting subjects ranging from portraiture to landscape to synthesized compositions... Photography

Photography

These days most people carry a camera in their pocket where ever they go - whether you’re using a camera-phone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera I’m at the ready to help you capture and edit amazing digital photos. Mastering photography is valuable for both documentation (portfolio photos of artwork, travel photos…) and as a creative format (portraiture, panoramas, light painting...).
Writing

Writing

Let me stir your excitement for research that brings new meaning to light ~ Whether you're an artist or a lover of art & artists, assembling findings of your research – and personal observations – into writing is the way to sort them out. You have a unique POV, get it down clearly in writing. Once you do, the lines are yours for use as the artist's elevator pitch or for conversations at cocktail parties & museum outings...
