Hello! My name is Deanelle. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While a student there, I worked for 3 years as an Elementary tutor in all the core subjects: math, reading, science, and social studies, and also Spanish. It was such a blast that upon graduating; I became an Elementary teacher where I taught the core subjects but really spent most of my time outside the classroom teaching my family friend’s children and nephew how to speak Spanish. Which ultimately inspired me to teach others how to speak the language too.
For me, learning how to speak, read, and write Spanish was a long and grueling process. Where if it were not for my professor, I would have quit learning the language after acquiring my general credits just before it got interesting.
Well, after a few years of learning it, living in Spain for 6 months, making friends there, and visiting them again, I fell in love with the language, the culture, and the food. Spanish and any other language are so much more than what is taught in the walls of the classroom. There is an entire world and many people you can connect with and a lot of potential friends you can make by learning it too!
Throughout my years of teaching and tutoring, I have learned that there is no one size fits all approach and that students learn from adults who are engaging and interesting. In order to meet students, I meet them where they are at and differentiate my instruction so that they can get the most out of it. This is the same strategy that I employ while tutoring. Engaging them with the material in a way that they learn best.
I am passionate about seeing my students grow and achieve their goals as learners. It is my goal to tutor students in a way that is engaging, meets their needs, and allows them to enjoy learning.
