I am an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist with 24 years of experience. I have worked in the public school systems for 10 years in California, Indiana, and North Carolina. I work with students with specific learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and Autism. My training as an SLP makes me uniquely qualified in the areas of phonics and the reading process for struggling readers. Many of my students with speech sound delays are at risk of reading delays. I am knowledgeable in the science of reading and know what it takes to help a struggling reader. I use a multisensory-based approach with a research-based scope and sequence. My knowledge as an SLP also gives me the expertise to assist students who may have underlying language delays. i am well-versed in the expectations in the public schools and the standards of core curriculum. Above that, my passion and ability to connect with students will not be rivaled. I love seeing students succeed. It is my super-power. Students do not enter school saying "I don't want to learn to read." They have a natural curiosity and drive to want to learn to read. However, if that path is rocky, they can become easily discouraged. I will be their biggest cheerleader and support you and them through this process so that your child can become a life-long learner who can reach their goals and imagine big dreams.

Grammar

Grammar

I was trained in language structures and functions. I teach students with language disorders how to speak and write grammatically correct sentences.
Phonics

Phonics

I have worked in the educational setting for more than 10 years. I have knowledge of sounds and symbol correspondence and teach students with speech delays how our sound system works, especially as it relates to learning to read. I am well versed in phonological awareness tasks and systematic phonics scopes and sequences that come from the latest research in the science of reading.
Reading

Reading

I am trained in scaffolded language interventions that support reading comprehension. I teach students vocabulary strategies that increase their ability to define and sound out unknown words while reading so that they do not skip them, which leads to decreased comprehension.
Spelling

Spelling

I am trained in sounds and teaching students sound-symbol correspondence. I know all 6 syllable types and rules on how vowels behave.
Writing

Writing

I help students learn to write by first meeting them where they are. Many of the students I work with hate writing. It is the most complicated task they do at school. I know the foundational writing principles and how to take students to the next level using scaffolded strategies. One strategy I use is taking a primary source and re-writing it in a new way.
