I am a public school teacher, but also an internationally-published professional editor and technical writer who spent nearly two decades translating complex technologies, workflows, and “expert-only” language into writing everyday readers could more easily understand. My writing/editing career functioned like teaching on the page: selecting the right vocabulary, syntax, and examples for a target audience, then revising until the explanation is clear, accurate, and most usable. I bring that same craft into tutoring, yet it now it happens live, in real time, with quick pivots and the kind of targeted feedback that helps students become independent and more confident readers and writers.
I pair my real-world communication experience with deep academic training. I earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts Studies from Wake Forest University (summa cum laude; GPA 3.963), including a capstone focused on strengthening grammar instruction through linguistics-based methods that effectively transfer to student writing. I also earned a B.S. in Education from Lees-McRae College (magna cum laude; GPA 3.7979). Earlier, I completed a B.S. in Music Industry Studies (Recording & Production) with a minor in General Business at Appalachian State University.
Professionally, I’ve taught 7th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies (7 and 8) in a North Carolina public school setting since August 2018. In 2024 to 2025, my ELA7 class’s EOG growth was at the top of my district. If you’re a middle-school, high-school, or early-college student who needs increased reading comprehension, stronger academic writing, or approaches to grammar that finally “click,” my goals are simple; I teach no fluff, I intentionally reduce jargon, and I aim to amplify clarity. I aim for precise linguistic explanations, suggest practical writing tools, and provide steady coaching and editing support until you can do it confidently on your own.
